Isra El-beshir is a cultural anthropologist, adjunct faculty, avid traveler and Curator of Education and Public Programming at the Arab American National Museum (AANM). She obtained her Masters in anthropology from Wayne State University. Her research focuses on tropes of shame, identity and belonging. Isra has also contributed an exhibit text at the Grand Rapids Art Museum and curated Sudanese political cartoonist Khalid Albaih's debut U.S. exhibition at the AANM, "It's Not Funny: Political Cartoons from the Arab World" (1 May-30 July 2015). Isra is working towards providing a space for Sudanese artists to exhibit their work and contributions. |
